Should I connect a CAN toolhead board directly to my controller board or via USB-to-CAN adaptor module?
If your controller board (e.g. the Bigtreetech Octopus) supports on board CAN you may wonder if it makes sense to connect a CAN toolhead board directly to it without using a USB to CAN adaptor board.
While this is technically possible (Klipper now supports the onboard CAN interface of controller boards), the implementation is still not perfect. Additionally the interface between the CAN toolhead board and the controller board often needs to be cripmed (e.g. the Octopus is using a RJxx connector for this).
So for the moment we are recommending using a USB-to-CAN adaptor board if you want to connect your CAN toolhead board to a controller board.
